Back to Main Course

According to the ancient life science of Ayurveda all of creation manifests in a unique combination of the Five Great Elements: Earth, Air, Fire, Water, and Space. It differs a little to the traditional Chinese Medicine where the elements are: Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, and Water.  No matter which tradition, both uses the the elements to describe and explain how everything on earth is connected and how it impacts each other.

Everything created in nature and the material worlds belongs to an element and the elements affects both our organs and our emotions. Through the elements we can gain a deeper understanding of ourselves, nature and the universe we live in.

Through out this course we will journey through the elements starting the first week with the element of Earth.

All the elements are represented within us but one can be more (or less) dominant. Our state of balance changes overtime due to a variety of things like physical aging and from growing more wise from life experience. Some people may have one or two elements that are dominant while others have an even distribution of characteristics within all five elements.

In both Ayurveda and Traditional Chinese Medicine understanding these five elements is essential for understanding your own health and well-being. You, too, are made up of all the elements, and the way that these energies interact and counter-balance one another in your body can have a significant impact on the way that you experience life.

The Earth element is slow and quiet, cool and stable, nourishing and steadfast, just like the soil beneath our feet. Earth’s supportive and steady nature presents itself in personal characteristics like loyalty, morality, and responsibility. Healthy levels of earth can be seen in those who have strong convictions, who work hard without complaint, and who have successful long-term relationships and steady, sensible career paths.
